Shiko, Reed Lift Bloomsburg Softball Over West Chester

BLOOMSBURG- Batting one-two in the line-up, Bloomsburg University's Tara Reed (Williamsport/ Williamsport) and Nikki Shiko (Kulpmont/Southern Columbia) lifted the Huskies to a doubleheader sweep over West Chester in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action on Wednesday afternoon. Bloomsburg took game one 2-1 and won game two, 2-0.

In game one, both teams were held scoreless until the top of the sixth inning when West Chester took a 1-0 lead. Megan Harbaugh hit a two-out double to start the rally and was later singled home by starting pitcher Shannon Padula. Then, with a runner on first, Katey Kreider laced a pitch between first and second but the Huskies' Jess Rosin (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison) made a diving catch that ended the West Chester threat.

With the score still 1-0 in favor of the Golden Rams, Bloomsburg used three doubles in the bottom of the seventh for the come-from-behind win. Tiff Corliss (Lewisburg/Mifflinburg) led off the inning with a deep shot to center field. After a groundout, Reed knocked a double into right-center to score Corliss. With Reed on second, Shiko hit her second double of the game to win the contest for Bloomsburg.

Shiko finished 2-3 with an RBI while Reed went 1-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Ashley Lynn (Riverside/Danville) got the win for the Huskies, throwing seven innings allowing one run on five hits while striking out 13 and walking none.

Game two was another pitcher's dual with a 0-0 score going into the bottom of the fifth. Kristen Koveleski (Mechanicsburg/Mechanicsburg) reached base on an error to set up Reed who then collected her third hit of the game when she blasted a double that drove in pinch-runner Jess Snader (Mount Joy/Donegal). Reed then stole third and Shiko drove her in on a sacrifice fly.

In game two, Reed went 3-3 with an RBI and a run while Shiko was 1-1 with a walk and an RBI. Picking up the win for Bloomsburg was Sheelin Fisher (Coplay/Allentown Central Catholic) who went seven innings scattering three hits, allowing no walks and striking out six.
